Byford Assumes Chair of TGHA Board of Commissioners

Greenville, SC – Local businessman, Pete Byford, recently assumed the position of Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of The Greenville Housing Authority (TGHA).  The Greenville Housing Authority is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners. Members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor of Greenville and ratified by City Council.

Byford was originally appointed to the Board of Commissioners in December 2014. He previously served as the Vice Chairman of the TGHA Board. Byford will serve as Chairman through September 2018.

In his professional life, Mr. Byford serves as Senior Program Manager for Tax Advantage Group, LLC.  In his role, he works to assist qualified projects source capital through the strategic use of the federal new market tax credit program administered by the Department of Treasury. 

Mr. Byford began his career as a tax and corporate attorney with the law firm of Leatherwood Walker Todd & Mann, P.C. (now Smith Moore Leatherwood, LLP), where he advised business clients with respect to all aspects of their business operations.

Mr. Byford is actively involved in the thriving Greenville Community. In addition to his position as Chairman of The Greenville Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, he has previously served as the Treasurer of the Advisory Board to the Salvation Army of Greenville and served on their Kroc Community Center Capital Campaign Executive Committee.  Byford is also a member of the Board of Directors for The Makers Collective, a non-profit focused on the sustaining and advancement of independent craft artisans.

Since 1938, the Greenville Housing Authority has provided housing assistance for people with low and moderate incomes. TGHA provides housing assistance for families, elderly, veterans and disabled individuals through a variety of programs including Public Housing, Housing Choice Vouchers, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Rental Assistance Demonstration, and Homeownership.
